Sample Trip: Easter In Greece
The feasts and celebrations of Greek Easter and Protomayia are filled with delicious food, charming villages, warm hospitality in homes, breathtaking sites and poignant traditions.
Spring in Greece is the most beautiful time to visit. The countryside is bursting with color as wildflowers bloom in profusion. Greek Easter is the most important holiday of the year, made up of the entire Holy Week and Easter Week, which this year ends with the festival of Protomayia—May 1, where locals picnic, gather wildflowers to make beautiful wreaths for their doors, hung until they are burned in another festival on June 23. Holy week re-enacts Christ’s passion with many traditions, which we will participate in to experience true Greek Easter. During Holy Week, enjoy Greek vegetarian cuisine, as that is what fills tables before the Easter feast of lamb. Guests are welcomed in to Greek homes to experience the warm hospitality, delicious food and conviviality that makes Greek festivals so special and unforgettable.
